Peter Burke (barrister)
Peter Burke (1811–1881) was an English barrister and serjeant-at-law, known also as a writer. Life He was the eldest son of John Burke of Elm Hall, County Tipperary, and brother of Sir John Bernard Burke, born in London on 7 May 1811. He was educated at the college of Caen, Normandy. Having been called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1839, he joined the northern circuit and the Manchester and Lancashire sessions. Burke later practised at the parliamentary bar, and appeared before the House of Lords in several major peerage cases. He was made a Queen's Counsel of the county palatine of Lancaster in 1858, and a serjeant-at-law in 1859. He was elected director or chief honorary officer of the Society of Antiquaries of Normandy for 1866-7. Peter Burke (Gaelic Footballer)
Peter Burke (born 9 November 1976) is a Gaelic football coach, selector and former player. He played as goalkeeper for the Kiltimagh club and the Mayo county team. Burke made 60 appearances for his county between 1997 and 2004. He played in the 1997 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final defeat to Kerry. He did not concede a goal in that game but he did in the 2004 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, against Kerry again, another loss. He won two Connacht Senior Football Championships, in 1997 and 1999, as well as the 2000–01 National Football League. He was also involved with the Ireland international rules football team as a player. After Burke had retired from playing inter-county football, Mayo manager James Horan invited him to be Mayo's senior goalkeeping coach, a role Burke held for eight years (between 2011 and 2018), coaching his former understudy David Clarke. Ulick Peter Burke (born August 16, 1937, in Stanmore, England) is a British historian and professor. He was born to a Roman Catholic father and Jewish mother (who later converted to Roman Catholicism). From 1962 to 1979, he was a member of the School of European Studies at University of Sussex, before moving to the University of Cambridge, where he holds the title of Professor Emeritus of Cultural History and Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Burke is celebrated as a historian not only of the early modern era, but one who emphasizes the relevance of social and cultural history to modern issues. He is married to the Brazilian historian Maria Lúcia Garcia Pallares-Burke who is the author of two books (in one of which she collaborated with her husband). He was educated by the Jesuits and at St John's College, Oxford and was a doctoral candidate at St Antony's College, Oxford. Peter Burke (born 22 October 1982) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as Minister of State for European Affairs and Minister of State at the Department of Defence since December 2022. He previously served as Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage from 2020 to 2022. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Longford–Westmeath constituency since 2016. He was a member of Westmeath County Council from 2009 to 2016. He lives in Mullingar with his wife and two children. Peter Standish Burke (22 September 1927 – 2 October 2017) was a New Zealand rugby union player, coach and administrator. A lock and number 8, Burke represented , and at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, in 1951, 1955 and 1957. He played 12 matches for the All Blacks including three internationals. After retiring as a player, Burke went on to contribute to rugby as a selector, coach and administrator. He was a Taranaki selector from 1960 to 1968, and assistant coach of that union from 1963 to 1965. He also served as president of the Taranaki Rugby Union.
